GIS for Education: Data

Data in Education

The broad range of issues and factors studied in education

Data

  • National Center for Education Statistics collects crates and disseminates a broad range of data about demographics, costs, spending, academic achievement and more.
  • National Historical GIS (NHGIS)  disseminates data from the Decennial Census , the American Community Survey, special censuses like the Religious Bodies Census, and state census as well, from 1790 to present.
  • Higher-Ed GIS  disseminates data from the Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT), the principal surveys for studying the science and engineering (STEM) workforce in the United States. Data from the National Surveys of College Graduates (NSCG), Recent College Graduates (NSRCG) and Doctorate Recipients (SDR) are integrated from 1993 to the present.

Both of the foregoing resources are projects of the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) project at the University of Minnesota, which contains many other useful datasets from other surveys and census.
