Soper Library's Multimedia Listening/Viewing Department is located on the Ground Floor,
Room G34. Housed in this room are the Library's microform collections (mostly back
issues of magazines, journals, and newspapers), sound recordings, audio and video cassettes,
and slide collections, along with playback equipment.
A MSU Bear Necessity Card is needed to make copies from microform. Visitors from
outside the University community may purchase a card from the MVT (Morgan Value Terminal)
in the First Floor lobby area. The cost is 50 cents; value may be added, as
needed.
Hours for the Multimedia Listening/Viewing Department are posted at its entrance.
Generally, the room is open at all times the Library is, except for the half-hour
prior to closing.

- Circulation to students is for one day only.
- Circulation to faculty and staff is for seven days.
- A current identification card is necessary to check out materials.
- Circulation outside the Multimedia Department is permitted Monday
through Friday only, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- All items must be returned to the Multimedia Department.
Microfilm Collections
- Newspapers: Baltimore Sun and Evening Sun, Afro-American newspapers,
Baltimore News American, The L.A. Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street
Journal, The Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, The Times
(London) and African-American newspapers from selected cities in the
United States. There are also a collection of 19th century
African-American newspapers and the Maryland Gazette, 1745-1837.
- Periodicals: Over 1000 titles representing back issues of periodicals
that support all academic disciplines offered by Morgan
State University.
- Doctoral Dissertations: Dissertations accepted in American universities and
covering every aspect of study relating to the African-
American experience.
- Schomburg Collection: The Schomburg Collection of Negro Literature and History
is a collection of books, periodicals and newspapers
including the first African-American newspaper published,
New York Age, 1905-1960.

- Facts on Film: Vertical file material about the African-American
experience and that of other minorities in the U.S. This collection
dates from 1954-1973.

covering the most significant events, issues and
personalities of recent times.
- The Negro Emancipation to WW I: Collection of books and pamphlets written between
1863 and World War I by and about African-Americans.
- Pamphlets in American History: Pamphlets on every major period and theme in American
history.
- Library of American Civilization: Collection of books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, and
documents (colonial, U.S., and state) from the 17th century to
World War I.
- Library of English Literature: Collection of major and minor works of poetry, drama
and prose from Beowulf to the Restoration. Political and
religious tracts are also included.
- Historical African-American Periodicals: These periodicals reflect the viewpoint of African-
Americans on a wide range of political, economic and
social issues. The period covered is from 1826 to 1960.
- Corefiche: World's Best Drama: 851 plays by 245 dramatists, ranging from Classical
Greece to the early 20th century. Encompasses
European and non-European authors (all in English).
