Interlibrary Loan Policies

- Only Morgan State University's faculty, staff, and students may borrow materials
from other libraries, using Soper Library's interlibrary loan service.
- Loan periods and restrictions, if any, vary and are determined by the lending library.
Patrons must abide by them.
- Soper Library will not accept requests for materials that it owns, even though they might
be in circulation at the time of need. Please consult our online catalog, E-Books (eBooks), E-Journals
(eJournals), and our online databases that provide full-text periodical articles and monographs before
requesting any item via interlibrary loan.
- Soper Library also does not accept request for materials that are available at USMAI libraries.
Request these materials directly from those libraries, through
the online catalog. The materials well be sent to Soper and we will notify you when they arrive.
- Please allow about two weeks for the items you requested to arrive. If there is
an urgent need, consider borrowing directly from one of the libraries with whom Soper
Library has a reciprocal borrowing arrangement.
- All materials must be picked up at the Circulation desk and returned there.
Do not deposit ILL materials in the bookdrop or place them on Soper Library's shelves.
- Patrons must provide complete bibliographical information for each item requested.
- Forms for requesting interlibrary loan service are available online or at
the Circulation Desk. To have a form mailed or faxed, contact Donald Matthews by
telephone at 443-885-3477, or by e-mail, dmatthews@moac.morgan.edu
Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions
The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the
making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under
certain conditions specified in the Law, libraries and archives are authorized
to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions
is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than
private study, scholarship, or research. " If a user makes a request for, or later
uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that
user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its
judgment, fulfillment of that order would involve violation of the law.
