Government Documents

     A U.S. government document is any publication produced by a U.S. governmental agency, including the Congress, the Supreme Court, the Cabinet Departments and other executive offices like NASA, securities and Exchange Commision.

   The Collection at Richardson Library includes over 150,000 documents in print, 15,000 in microfilm and many more online.

  • Catalog of U.S. Government Publications
    Bibliographic database of current and historical federal publications and direct links to online copies if available.
  • U.S. Census
    Links to demographic data, housing, labor statistics, health, education and other data; cartographic products multimedia education resources and info about special and non-decennial census.
  • American FactFinder
    Part of the Census Bureau's resources, this web page provides quick info about a particular city.
  • The White House
    Links to press releases and multimedia, policy issues, cabinet members and the first family, and the history of previous presidents and their families.
  • Federal Digital System (FDSys)
    FDSys is a depository of full text federal Government documents similar to the catalog of Government Publications. With FDSys you can search for and browse federal documents and publications. Browse by collection, Congressional committee, date, or Government author.
  • The American Presidency Project
    A database of presidential papers including messages, proclamations and other documents, together with other information like approval numbers and electoral college maps.
  • The Federal Register
    the official journal of the Federal Government. Find changes and proposed changes to regulations, executive orders, proclamations and other executive activity.
  • Congress.gov
    The front page of the federal legislature. Find bills proposed, in progress and vote results. Find video and minute proceedings of both camera, and information about members and committees.
  • Data.gov
    Search 156,000 data sets or browse by topic and category like "education" or "climate"; by data set type; by format or organization.
  • A Century of Lawmaking (LOC)
    Contains early documents relating to the foundation of the republic and its early decades.
  • The Supreme Court
    Links to recent opinions, transcripts and audio recordings of recent oral arguments with archives. Case documents, court rules and court history.
