GIS for Civil Engineering

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer system consisting of hardware and software used to store, process, analyze, model, and display spatial data.  GIS enables Civil Engineers to:

  • Evaluate site selection and visualize structures,
  • Analyze relationships between built and natural environments,
  • Model dynamic aspects of terrain,
  • Wastewater, storm water and municipal waste management,
  • Anticipate, monitor and mitigate natural disasters, and much more.
